GOAL:
Should I install OpenEdge / Progress on top of an earlier version?
GOAL:
Can Progress / OpenEdge be installed into previous installation path?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
No.
Installations of new versions should not be overlaid on top of previous versions.
Although there is typically an option within the installation program which will allow you to delete the directory if it exists it is usually better to rename the existing directory so it is out of the way then install to the preferred directory name and path.
If no attempt is made to move or rename the prior versions installation folder then it is advised to backup files in the $DLC/properties directory to a safe point outside of the $DLC directory since files in the $DLC/properties folder may be re-used to reduce the time for upgrade.
