MicroSoft Proxy Server for NT with Win95 winsock.dll

INTRODUCTION:
=============
If you are getting strange GPF (General Protection Fault) errors
upon disconnecting a session of Progress that was using TCP/IP from a
Windows 95/NT machine this document may be of some use to you in
resolving the problem.

POSSIBLE CAUSE OF ERROR:
========================
If you have started using the MicroSoft Proxy server which comes with
several versions of MicroSoft's NT server packages be aware that the
normal instructions for the Proxy server instruct you to install
a modified version of the Winsock.dll onto the client machines.

MicroSoft has noted on their website that not all existing software
programs will co-exist or utilize this modified winsock.dll.

MicroSoft has given 2 possible solutions to test to see if you can
overcome the problems caused by the introduction of their modified
dll. One of these methods has been attempted and found to be
somewhat successful.

CORRECTIVE MEASURES:
====================
One possible solution is to put a copy of the older version
winsock.dll into the binary executable directory of the program
which is having a problem using the newer winsock.dll.

That means, you would need to put a copy of the older winsock.dll into
the DLC\BIN directory of your client machines.

This method has been attempted so far by a few users and been seen to
be successful for all attempts and purposes so far tested.

If you attempt this solution and are still having problems with a
GPF please contact Progress Technical Support.
