(776) v6.2m21 character client using TCP/IP
There are two defining elements for getting the error (776) using TCP/
IP.
1. Having not setup TCP/IP and the environment for Progress correct.
For using TCP/IP together with the 6.2M21 or 6.2M38 character client
as underlying network protocol you need to have only 3 driver loaded:
a.) LSL.com
b.) The network card driver
c.) TCPIP.EXE
E.g. If your directory structure looks like:
c:\tcp and you have in c:\tcp these 3 files then you need a subdirecto
ry in this case c:\tcp\tcp
what contains the file with the names protocol , host , services ,
In the file protocol you have to have an entry:
tcp 6 TCP # Transmission control protocol
The environment to set is in this case: EXCELAN=c:\tcp
That means c:\tcp is the TCP - ROOT . Progress looks for the files in
a directory tcp under this directory
specified through the EXCELAN .
2. The second thing to know is that TCP/IP only works with the protect
ed mode executable of Progress _pprogrs.exe .
Using _progres.exe in version 6 will always give the misleading error
(776).
