FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.0B
SYMPTOM(s):
Progress Explorer shows only Databases after install of service pack 10.0B05.
No brokers or NameServer are being displayed in the Progress Explorer
ubrokers.property file contains definitions of brokers and NameServer
Uninstall 10.0B04 by copying back the original files
CAUSE:
When a service pack install backups the old files, the time stamp of the files are changed. When the service pack is subsequently backed out, the original files have a new time stamp. When the 05 service pack is installed, the install checks the time stamp of the following files:
"promsgs" is installed based on its existence, the file is installed only if it does not already exist.
"prohelp" is installed based on its existence, the file is installed only if it does not already exist.
"msgdata" is installed based on its existence, the file is installed only if it does not already exist.
"messages.jar" is installed based on its time stamp, a newer file is placed on top of an older file.
"schema.jar" is installed based on its time stamp, a newer file is placed on top of an older file.
Since the 05 service pack had a time stamp older than the existing file, it was not installed.
FIX:
The correct schema.jar file should be approximately 39K in size. If a schema.jar file of this size is contained within a difference install then binary copy the file into the $DLC/java directory.
If you do not have the proper size schema.jar file, then contact Progress Technical Support.
Another possible workaround would be to:
1. Uninstall the 05 service pack
2. change the timestamp of the $DLC/java/schema.jar file to 1/1/2001
3. Re-install the 05 service pack.
The install will now put the new schema.jar file into the directory since the 05 file has a newer time stamp.
