GOAL:
AS/400:Progress/400 DataServer v8 vs. v9 licensing change
GOAL:
What has changed in licensing on AS/400 data server between V8 and V9?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress/400 DataServer
FIX:
In version 8 and 9 of the Progress/400 DataServer, the Native 4GL client has always been a separate orderable product with its own serial number and control codes. However, in Progress/400 version 8, the native 4GL client was bundled with the DataServer license which allowed Progress client to install the native 4GL client without requiring a separate license.
After the release of the AppServer for AS/400, the bundle was broken. Therefore, with Progress/400 DataServer version 9, Progress client needs to buy a separate license for the native 4GL client if they want to run Progress application natively in as/400 as a batch job. The media id for these 2 products are as follows:
Progress/400 Native 4GL Compiler/ 276
Progress/400 DataServer/ 253
