GOAL:
Does Progress work on NFS 3.0
GOAL:
Does Progress Database work on external storage devices?
FACT(s) (Environment):
UNIX
Progress 9.1C
Progress 9.1D
Progress 9.1E
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
In Progress 9.1C and above, Progress makes a generic statement that:
The NFS 3.0 spec is much improved over prior ones, and we are removing the general restriction against using NFS with Progress. This applies to all supported platforms except Linux. Progress V9.1E01 and above is supported for Linux using NFSv3 (see not below).
Network File System (NFS) protocol versions NFSv2 and NFSv4 have not been certified and are therefore unsupported
Progress does not intend to certify every implementation of NFS with every release/patch/etc for Progress. Testing has been done with a Network Appliance system and the configuration worked acceptably. Like other database vendors, our assumption is that other devices written to the same spec and in wide commercial use will work OK also. Should there be a problem, you need to verify that the same problem exists when the database is on local storage. If the problem does go away then you should work with your storage provider rather than Progress.
