SYMPTOM(s):

MS SQL server clients are not disconnecting.

MS SQL server connections can not be reused.

No SQL servers are available. Try again later. (8839)

Connecting from another SQL session to the Progress database works fine.

promon shows many SQL connections available.

MSSQL server is stopped then restarted new connections are possible without any intervention on the Progress server side.

MS SQL server version is SQL Server 2000 and SP 3.

FACT(s) (Environment):

CHANGE:

Upgraded from Progress 9.1E to OpenEdge 10.0B.

CAUSE:

Because connections can still be made to the OpenEdge SQL Server, this is not a Progress issue, but it is a bug with the MS SQL Server product.

FIX:

To correct the problem install MS SQL Server SP 4.
