How to run the proenv utility
GOAL:
What is proenv?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 8.3E
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
All Supported Operating Systems
FIX:
The purpose of the proenv (Progress Environment) utility is to set the progress environment for a session in both Windows and UNIX with a proenv prompt. This makes it easier to run progress/OpenEdge commands from the proenv prompt for the session. This also confirms the correct DLC (Progress/OpenEdge installation) directory and the working directory set during the installation of progress/OpenEdge.
Start the proenv utility by executing proenv script located in the Progress Install Directory/bin:
In UNIX -
1. Opens a new session
2. Sets the $DLC environment variable to the directory where Progress is installed
3. It then adds $DLC/bin to your PATH
4. It reports the current version of Progress
5. It changes the directory to the working directory you set when Progress was installed
6. You can cd to any directory and carry the environment with you in this session
In Windows -
you can start proenv from the following menu path from your desktop:
Start > Programs > Progress, or OpenEdge > Proenv
