GOAL:
Can Report Builder display characters from a UTF-8 database?
GOAL:
Can Report Builder display characters from DBCS (Double Byte Character Set) Codepages?
GOAL:
Can Report Builder display Chinese characters stored in a UTF-8 database?
GOAL:
Can Report Builder display characters from code page GB2312?
FIX:
Report Builder will convert data from a UTF-8 database to its internal codepage, but it can only display the resulting characters if they are single-byte. For example, it is possible to display Polish characters passed from a UTF-8 database in a Report Builder report.
However, as Report Builder does not support double-byte characters, it is therefore not possible to display the double byte characters from, for example, the GB2312 Chinese code page. Report Builder interprets these each byte of a double-byte character as a separate entity, so 4 characters are seen in the report, instead of 2.
Unfortunately, as Report Builder is now Mature, this will not change and Progress now recommends Crystal Reports.
