GOAL:

Does Progress support Oracle Transparent Gateway?

GOAL:

How can an Oracle client connect to a Progress database?

GOAL:

Can an Oracle client connect to Progress database via Oracle Transparent Gateway?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x

FIX:

Oracle provides two solutions for connectivity to non-oracle data sources from Oracle clients, Transparent gateway and general connectivity. Transparent gateways are tailored specifically for the non-Oracle system, they are Oracle products and developed by Oracle. Transparent gateways for following databases are available from Oracle:
* ODBC Gateway
* Microsoft SQL Server
* Informix
* Sybase
* IBM DB2
* IBM DB2/400
* IBM DRDA
* EDA SQL
Oracle does not have a transparent gateway solution for Progress databases.
However, connectivity to Progress database should be possible with General Connectivity solution. General Connectivity is based on ODBC and OLEDB standards so it allows connectivity to any non-Oracle system which is ODBC or OLEDB compliant. This solution is free and available with Oracle database license. Progress sql-92 engine with Data Direct SQL-92 ODBC driver should make this solution feasible.
