What is DDCS
DDCS is Distributed Database Connection Services. It is networking
software that makes connectivity to DB2 databases "seamless". With
DDCS, a user or administrator can access a database as though it were
on a local machine. DDCS has various connectivity options. Most
recently, in DB2 Version 5, all platforms, including MVS, support TCP
DDCS is typically used on a machine that acts as a gateway for local
users to a remote DB2 database. For instance, a RS/6000 machine
that uses DDCS to describe a DB2 database that actually lives
on an MVS mainframe. To our local DB2 clients, the DB2 database on
MVS appears to be local on the RS/6000. The RS/6000 acts as a DDCS
gatway.
NOTE: In DB2 Version 5, "DDCS" has been renamed "DB2 Connect".
