FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.1E

SYMPTOM(s):

Why was date / time stamp for prostrct list added to 9.1E?

Example message(s):

Thu Oct 20 13:09:23 2005
13:09:23 prostrct list session begin for <user> on <terminal>. (451)
13:09:23 prostrct list session end. (334)

FIX:

The change is intended to provide additional information to help in finding problems such
as when the information in the structure file to be inconsistent with the actual database
structure as stored in the .db file. For example, when a prostrct add is done, the structure
file is not automatically updated. A prostrct list must be done to make sure the structure file
contains the current extent information. By logging the prostrct list operation, we can know
whether or not the structure file has been brought up to date with any database changes.

A case where it would be important to know whether or not the structure file is current would
be if the .db file is damaged and needs to be recreated. The prostrct repair operation makes
a new .db using information in the structure file. By looking at the log file, we can tell if prostrct
list was run after any database changes.
