GOAL:
Can a dump and load be used to migrate from Release 10.0X back to Version 9.1x?
GOAL:
Are there any tools to migrate backwards from version 10 to version 9?
GOAL:
Is dumping and loading the only way to migrate from OpenEdge 10.0X back to Progress 9.x?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
OpenEdge 10.x
Progress 9.x
FIX:
Dumping and loading is the only way to achieve a backwards migration.
ASCII dump and load from a release 10 database to release 9 database is the only acceptable method.
Use the Data Administration tool on Windows or the Data Dictionary on UNIX.
The df file from release 10 will have to be modified before it can be loaded by the version 9 utility. You will need to change the term MAX-WIDTH to be SQL-WIDTH.
The above is true only if you have not defined any of the new release 10 data types in the schema.
Binary dump and load can not be used for this migration as the header of the binary dump file contains version information.
