CreateIconsAndVBXLists or GetProfString failed, netsetup
INTRODUCTION:
=============
This Kb describes how to overcome the GetProfString and CreateIcons
Andvbxlist errors that you might see during installation using the
netsetup utillity.
WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS:
===========================
Many have seen errors while doing the install from a networked drive
to a client with the Netsetup Utillity.
PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
====================
First do a full installation on the server of the product that must be
installed on your clients, A database installation alone will not give
the Netsetup program. Insure that there is no previous installation
of Progress on your client machine. Then from the %DLC%\NETSETUP\ you
have installed Progress in , execute the Netsetup.exe program.
If this Fails at ca. 40% with errors <GetProfString Faild> followed by
<CreateIconsAndVBXLists failed..> then you are using the wrong
SHARED.INI or it has not been correctly created.
ONLINE PROCEDURES OR UTILITIES:
===============================
To install Progress on the client you will first have to clean up
the registry. This is done by running REGEDIT (regedt on winNT3.51)
and deleting the following key's;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC
Or running Setup.exe -x from the Progress CD
Then open up the SHARED.INI in the %dlc% you installed to, and check
for these three sections;
[VBX conversions32]
[License]
[Icons]
If these are not there either do a reinstall or do a local
installation and copy the SHARED.INI to the %DLC% on the server.
Then run the Netsetup program again.
