SYMPTOM(s):

Report Builder

Reports are not hole-punched after turning on the Hole-Punch option via Report Builder

Using a Minolta Pi6500e PCL6 printer which has Punch unit installed, allowing print jobs to be automatically hole-punched

Printing the report to a file shows that the control codes for the printer to enable the hole-punch do not change despite changing the setting in Report Builder Printer Setting

Hole-punch does not work when selected in Report Builder's Designer module

Hole-punch does not work when selected in Report Builder's Runtime Engine

Hole-punch option is not enabled by default in Printing Preferences for the printer

Enabling the hole-punch option in Printing Preferences, thereby changing the default setting for the system, results in reports being hole-punched

Hole-punch works when selected from a 4GL application with SYSTEM-DIALOG PRINTER-SETUP

Hole-punch works when selected from other applications such as Microsoft Word

CAUSE:

This is expected behaviour. Report Builder takes the settings of the selected printer driver when it is printing. If the hole-punch option is selected in the printer driver settings then Report Builder adopts that setting.

FIX:

Report Builder contains no options for controlling the hole-punch unit. The options available in Printing Preferences of a printer must be turned on/off at a system-level (making them the default for all print jobs) before they are applied by Report Builder.
