GOAL:
Are there any plans for Windows Itanium support?
GOAL:
Which version of Progress, if any, is certified with Windows for Itanium?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Windows XP
Windows 2003
FIX:
Currently, there are no plans for Windows Itanium support. Windows 64Bit for Itanium support requires a complete port of Progress OpenEdge code which typically takes substantial amount of time. At the moment, Progress is testing its current Windows 32Bit products under the Windows 64Bit for Intel Operating Systems (MS Win64 Server & XP), but the Windows Itanium Operating System does not support Windows Intel based applications.
Both of the 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 are designed and compiled for the specific processor architectures. The Itanium and x64 versions each require a different binary version of the 64-bit software (Windows, applications and drivers). The x64 version of Windows Server cannot be used with the Intel Itanium Processor Family.
