CAUSE:
Custom super procedures were not set up in the recommended fashion, ie. no custom class was registered in the repository.
This caused the default behavior (loading the classes from the repository) to fail.
FIX:
Register customizations in the repository in accordance with the "Extending Object Classes with Progress Dynamics" whitepaper.
