NT 4.0 "hangs" with Matrox video driver.
Have seen this problem on some NT 4.0 installations.
If you have a machine with Matrox video driver the machine may hang
sometime when using Progress. It's not because of Progress but the
video driver.
To solve the problem changed this value in the Registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentcontrolSet\services\mga64\Device0,
set User.DeviceBitmaps = 0
Under Registry Settings locate the section on User.DeviceBitmaps. The
value of this setting needs to be changed from 1 to 0 to disable off-
screen memory for caching bitmaps.
A few more things to do/try:
As Matrox constantly are releasing new drivers for their graphic cards
please download and install the latest driver.
You can also try changing the settings on the desktop colors
For example: Change true type colors to 256.
A new graphic card BIOS have also been released and these can again be
downloaded and installed. For the Millinium a switch has to be thrown
on the card to disable the BIOS writte protection before upgrading.
The switch is not present on Mystique, Mystique 220 or Millinium 2 and
the new Gg200 so the BIOS can be upgraded without touching the card.
Last option is to change the driver to Standard VGA and redetect the
card, this will make sure the MGA_MIL driver supplied with NT is being
used.
