Will ntp affect the database?

GOAL:

Will the network time protocol affect the database?

FACT(s) (Environment):

All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family

FIX:

Network Time Procol will work with Progress as long as it is configured properly.
The database does not have to be shut down when ntp is implemented.
However, while the database handles small time changes just fine, the application(s) may not.
Whether that is the case depends on whether the application does time calculations and how those might be affected.
That is something that you will have to determine based on your application. A properly configured ntp setup will not
make radical shifts in the clock, but small adjustments over a period of time, slowing or speeding up the clock as
needed to get it to the correct time. If the ntp setup does this, then the application(s) should not be affected by it.
