SYMPTOM(s):
Silent installation fails with message on file associations.
While entering values through the keyboard the user response file generates the following question:
"There is already a Windows file association for the .db extension. Would you like to associate it with Progress files?". Installation hangs at this point.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1D
Progress 9.1E
OpenEdge 10.0x
Windows
CAUSE:
Bug# OE00102929
CAUSE:
The installer detects that the files extensions are already registered with another application on the Windows level, and will ask if this needs to be re-associated.
However, the default setup.iss does not contain a recorded response for this question because it is not typical for all installations. Without an automated response, the installer will raise the question interactively.
The previous file association is most likely established by using the Windows "Open With" option and indicating the file should always be opened with the specified application, or because another application created the associations as part of it's installation. The last case is very likely to happen if multiple Progress/OpenEdge releases are installed on the same machine.
FIX:
Upgrade to Progress 9.1E01 or later release
Upgrade to OpenEdge 10.1A or later release
Workaround:
If upgrading is not an option, remove the file association from the Windows registry.
This can be done by issuing the following from the command prompt:
assoc .db=
