GOAL:
Can a PROBKUP file from a minor release be restored in any other minor release database?
GOAL:
Can I restore a probkup from one version of Progress to another version?
GOAL:
Can a PROBKUP file from 9.1x be restored in a different 9.1x database?
GOAL:
Can a PROBKUP file from 10.0x be restored as a 10.2x database?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.X
FIX:
The following Guidelines apply:
1. OFFLINE PROBKUP volume between minor releases from the same platform can be restored.
2. While some cross-platform probkup | prorest may work some of the time, these are neither certified nor supported (**)
3. The reason that ONLINE probkups are not guaranteed to restore, is that there is always a requirement that whenever a database is upgraded, it must first be truncated in it's originating version before being opened in the new version
4. OFFLINE PROBKUP and PROREST between 32-bit and 64-bit minor versions but same CPU architecture are supported.
5. OFFLINE PROBKUP from OpenEdge 10.1A (or same minor version before) and restoring the backup (PROREST) in OpenEdge 10.1B or later is not supported due to the introduction of 64-bit keys in OpenEdge 10.1B
