FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 8.x
OpenEdge 10.x
SYMPTOM(s):
Getting errors (450) and (3191) when connecting to a version 8 database
SYSTEM ERROR: Cannot read field from record, not enough fields. (450)
SYSTEM ERROR: Failed to extract field <field-num> from <file-name> record (table <table-num>) with recid <RECID>. (3191)
Connecting from an OpenEdge 10 client
CAUSE:
The OpenEdge 10 client is trying to extract OpenEdge 10 specific system fields which do not exist in the version 8 database.
FIX:
This configuration is not supported. Clients are able to connect to database servers using client/server within 1 Major release prior.
There are 2 options:
- Upgrade the database to Progress 9 or OpenEdge 10
OR
- From the OpenEdge 10 client, connect to the version 8 database through a version 9 AppServer
