GOAL:

Is it possible to define the user and password for when connecting from a CorVu client to ABA Server?

FIX:

The only way to control access to an ABA server connection is to use the Secure definition, which requires a database login name and password. This name and password is entered by the user in the CorVu login screen, then passed through to the ABA Server, which then passes it to the database to be authenticated. If the name and password exist on the database then a connection is granted, otherwise the connection to the database is refused (however, CorVu on the PC does not shut down).

CorVu is aware that administrators may be reluctant to put user names and passwords in the ABA Server remote parameters configuration where they are stored in clear text. However, on UNIX and LINUX only root password access - or a specially created CorVu user password access - will permit viewing of the file or of the remote parameters. Therefore, as the user would already have privileged access, it is irrelevant if they can see it in the conf file.

Also the cvbroker which controls communication between a CorVu installation and ABAServer uses a port - by default this is port 7632. It is possible to define an alternative port for use with the ABA server, and various firewall products could monitor and limit traffic on that port, thereby affording some level of network control on its use.
