Digital Unix 7.3E - Core (49) during installation tailoring
This kbase is being generated to assist customers that are installing
Progress 7.3E onto Digital Unix 4.0. There is a problem with our
CD installation which results in a core dump when going through the
tailoring portion of the installation.
The problem is that inthe install program, we have tagged a file prohc
as a script to be tailored. When going through the tailoring portion
of the installation, we try to modify the DLC environment variable
in this file. This file is an executable, not a script. Therefore,
when we go through the tailoring portion and try to modify this file
we corrupt the prohc image and this leaves a 0 length file on disk.
This then results in a core dump.
The workaround is to go through the process of the installation.
When asked if you want to copy scripts to /usr/bin, answer No. This
will prevent us from terminating the installation. The core error
will still occur and a core file will be produced. The good news is
that the installation will have completed regardless of the error.
Now you can manually copy your progress scripts to /usr/bin if you
want. The prohc file on disk will still be 0 length. This file is
really only used when you are creating/building your own help
application. If you are not creating your own help application then
you do not need this file anyways. If you are creating your own help,
then please contact Progress Technical Support for the appropriate
prohc file.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused our customer
base - we are in the process of addressing the CDROM issue. This
kbase entry is being made public, just in case you experience this
problem prior to our resolution of the CDROM issue.
