FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
FIX:
The Progress FTP site can be reached at ftp.progress.com (IP address 192.168.39.112). Part of this FTP site has been made available specifically for technical support interaction. This area allows you to upload large files (instead of emailing them), and for downloads for specific issues. If you are working with technical support, you might be instructed to upload or download your files to this customer area.
Depending on your preference, you can use either a Web Browser or an FTP application to access the Progress FTP site. Once connected you will be in the public area, either /ftp/pub or /ftp. You will then be able to access the directory and files as per the specific instructions that you have received.
I. Using an FTP Application.
For the Customer FTP area login, follow these steps:
1) ftp pscgate.progress.com (pscgate's IP address is 192.168.39.112).
2) Username: customer
3) Password: (call Progress Technical Support for a password on an as-needed basis).
4) Set transfer mode to binary. Type: bin
If you are putting/uploading a file, go to step 5.
If you are getting/downloading a file go to step 9.
5) You are now in the / direct directory. Change to the /incoming directory. Type: cd /incoming
6) Create a custom customer directory. Type: mkdir <dirname> (for example the technical support case number)
7) Change to the custom directory. Type: cd <dirname>
8) Upload the files. Type:
put <filename> (to put a file in the incoming Directory.)
or
mput <file*name> (to put multiple files in the incoming Directory).
NOTE: If you log out (or get disconnected) you do not have permissions to that file when you log back in. Either you must start over, or put the file in a different name. Housekeeping for this directory is performed regularly, so you do not need to do anything to assure that your files are removed.
9) To download a file, change to the outgoing directory. Type: cd /outgoing
get <filename> (to get a specified file from the outgoing directory).
mget <file*name> (to get multiple specified files from the outgoing directory).
10) quit (to exit the ftp site).
II. Using Windows Explorer.
1) Open Windows Explorer.
2) On the "Address" bar, type the following and press enter:
ftp://customer:<password received from progress techsupport>@ftp.progress.com
3) Navigate to either the incoming or outgoing directories that you have been instructed to on the right hand pane of the windows explorer.
3. If uploading, then create a new directory (e.g. named with the work request number), change to this directory and upload the file. Note that (due to the server's security settings) if the transfer is interrupted for any reason you won't be able to see the newly created directory or the partially uploaded file when you log in again, so you'll need to upload it again from scratch. You can drag and drop files from your local machine for uploading.
4) If downloading, copy or drag the specified file from the outgoing directory to your local folder.
III. Using a browser.
1) Point your browser to: ftp://customer@ftp.progress.com (IP address 192.168.39.112).
You will be prompted to enter the customer FTP password (as discussed above), then navigate to the incoming or outgoing directories as needed.
2) Navigate to either the incoming or outgoing directories that you have been instructed to.
3. If uploading, then create a new directory (e.g. named with the work request. number), change to this directory and upload the file. Note that (due to the server's security settings) if the transfer is interrupted for any reason you won't be able to see the newly created directory or the partially uploaded file when you log in again, so you'll need to upload it again from scratch.
4) If downloading, copy the specified file from the outgoing directory..
