GOAL:
Can a Windows ODBC client connect to an OpenEdge 10.x database on HP Itanium 2 machine?
GOAL:
Can an application server running on an Itanium machine connect to an OpenEdge 10 database via ODBC
GOAL:
ODBC support for OpenEdge 10.x on Itanium HP-UX 11i v2 ?
FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.x
HP-UX 11i Itanium
HP-UX 11i v2
FIX:
ODBC clients on Windows PC's will be able to connect to an Itanium database server over the DataDirect 4.20 32-bit OpenEdge SQL-92 v10.0B [4.20.00.55].
There are no Itanium native ODBC drivers currently. So, if there is an application server running on an Itanium machine that needed to talk to a Progress database via ODBC, this would not be possible with the current release.
The following are the status of our current plans to make this functionality available:
1. Certification (and thus support and embedding) for odbc/jdbc drivers on the HP-UX 11 itanium 2 platform is currently planned for OpenEdge 10.2x
2. OE 10.2 is, at the time of writting, scheduled for release in Q4 2007.
3. The feature set for OE10.2 is still under review, so it is currently not possible to say definitely that the drivers will be bundled in this release.
The odbc/jdbc drivers are those from DataDirect, which are the only that Progress supports. Although others might work, they are not supported and we cannot comment on any issues that they may introduce.
