GOAL:
Why Progress or OpenEdge products are no more supported on earlier Operating System (OS) versions?
GOAL:
Do you really need an OS upgrade if earlier OS is not supported by Progress or OpenEdge products?
GOAL:
Can you install Progress on an earlier Operating System (OS) than the one specified?
FIX:
New versions of Progress and OpenEdge are developed on the OS level still supported by the vendors for getting better services from them if needed. New OS functionality might or might not be used within the new Progress or OpenEdge versions.
You rarely can install Progress on an earlier Operating System (OS) than the one specified within the Installation Notes.
If a Progress or Open Edge product has been compiled on a certain OS level, then this will be the earlier OS version Progress will support.
The OS vendors usually do not provide forward compatibility.
