How to restrict access to the CorVu ABA Administrator
GOAL:
How to restrict access to the CorVu Administrator
FIX:
The CorVu ABA Administrator and CorVu Administrator programs are installed by default with the CorVu products from CD. There is, however, no product-internal method of restricting access to these utilities.
In order to restrict access for users other than the designated administrators -
1. Edit the CorVu\SETUP.INI file to comment out the line (with a ; ) which defines it as a desktop icon - e.g.
[Install]
;ABA Administrator=F,0,CVRADM32.EXE,CVRADM32.EXE,1,1,I,ABA Administrator
This means that when a network users runs the cvsetp32.exe program to install as a network CorVu user, it will not create the icon.
2. For those users, delete the program cvradm32.exe from the CorVu folder, or restrict Windows file access for it to just the user account for the designated administrator(s).
One point to note - The ABA Administrator utility requires a root/admin or valid CorVu password authenticated on the remote server to provide access, so casual users without the relevant permissions will not be able to configure servers with it.
