SYMPTOM(s):
Opening a file in the AppBuilder causes WebSpeed error
The pop-up error message with OK button displays with the following error:
An error occurred reading the webspeed directory and will be displayed in your web browser
After clicking OK button, the following errors are displays in the browser:
WebSpeed error from messenger process (6019)
Msngr: the specified service name does not exist or has a bad format. (5825): wsbroker1
FACT(s) (Environment):
The application trying to open is a GUI application not related to WebSpeed
Has a ProVision Plus license only
Progress 9.1x
OpenEdge 10.x
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
CAUSE:
The AppBuilder is set to remote development mode. ProVision Plus license includes WebSpeed development license which includes bith local and remote development mode. Since the development mode is set to *remote*, opening an application through AppBuilder is going through the cgiip messenger (by default) and, there by, through the webserver to reach the NameServer. The webspeed broker is not running but the NameServer is running since the adminserver is automatically started by the windows services. By default the NameServer is set to auto-start upon starting the progress AdminServer. Since the WebSpeed broker is not running there is no application service name registered to the NameServer, hence, the error 5825 is apparent.
FIX:
Switch the remote development mode to the local development mode. Here is how: Press the shortcut icon look like a spider web beneath the *Window* and *Help* menu in the AppBuilder. Pressing the spider web icon will now display as a desktop computer icon which is the local development mode.
