Progress recommends 3 methods:
1. Use the progress backup utility. This will freeze database updates while the BI log is backed up and then allow changes again while data is being backed up.
2. Establish a quiet point, which will temporarily suspend all database changes and transaction state changes. Copy the files, and then release the quiet point.
3. Use quiet points and disk mirroring. Establish the quiet point, break the mirrors, release the quiet point, copy the files, then reestablish the mirrors. This method blocks database changes for only a few seconds.
