SYMPTOM(s):

File extension error comes up when installing Progress

File extension .cfg is already registered by another application as file <>. Do you want to overwrite the registry entry and register this file extension as a progress file?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family

CAUSE:

This message is asking if you want to associate any file extensions that end with .cfg with Progress. The only Progress file with a .cfg extension that may need to be opened, is the progress.cfg file. It shows the Progress licenses that are installed.

FIX:

Select "yes" to do this. This may affect another program that creates files with a .cfg extension.
To undo this choice after installation if necessary:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Go to Tools>>Folder Options>>File Types
3. Scroll to CFG
4. Highlight and delete CFG.
The next time a file with a .cfg extension is opened, Windows will prompt for a Program to open it with. Choose the correct program and the .cfg extension will be associated with that program.
