GOAL:
How ODBC DataServer handles long names for tables and fields when connecting to DB2/400
FACT(s) (Environment):
IBM AS/400 (RISC)
ODBC DataServer
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
DB2/400 objects cannot have longer names than 10 characters. The same applies to column names in a physical file (fields of a table). The table and field names relation to actual objects and DB2/400 field names are kept in the SQL Catalog on the AS/400. The appropriate mappings are in the SQL Catalog system tables : SYSTABLES and SYSCOLUMNS respectively.
