GOAL:
Can the Before Image file be used to undo a delete?
GOAL:
Is there a Progress tool to undo a committed transaction?
FIX:
The short answer is "No". There is no Progress tool to undo a committed transaction.
Progress provides the functionality, with After-Imaging, to apply data changes on an earlier copy of the database up to a certain time or a certain transaction (options "endtime" and "endtrans" of rfutil -C roll forward); this allows to not commit transactions on a copy of the database.
If After-Image is enabled on the database at the time of the delete, then you can use an earlier database backup and AI extents to re-apply any action having been done before the commit time of the transaction where records were deleted. This is a way to recover the deleted records, at the cost of not redoing any action made after a certain time, after the fatal transaction.
