GOAL:
Who is the database owner?
GOAL:
What are the differences between a database administrator and a database owner?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
OpenEdge Category: SQL
FIX:
The database owner is the individual or login that created the database while the Database Administrator is an individual that is given administrator rights within the database.
Rights are granted within the database administrator program, under the security option.
Rights can also be granted on a SQL level using the SQL Explorer and the SQL language.
Being a SQL database administrator does not grant the user the same rights within the 4GL side of Progress and vice versa.
There can be just one database owner while there can be several database administrators.
The database owner is the default database administrator and cannot have his rights revoked using 4GL or SQL.
