FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows 32 Intel

SYMPTOM(s):

AppServer connection fails with error (9407)

Connection failure for host <host_name> port <port> transport <transport_name>. (9407)

Using two network connections.

Using two network cards.

The IP address in the error (9407) is not the same as used for the AppServer connection.

CHANGE:

The priority for the backup LAN connection was changed to have the higher priority.

CAUSE:

You can set Windows to have a priority set when using two network connections. In this case the backup LAN connection was set with the highest priority while the one configured for the AppServer was set to have a lower priority. This causes a wrong priority for the type network connection to the AppServer and therefore the connection failure error.

FIX:

Change the priority for the Locally Network Connections to have the highest priority (the backup LAN should have the second or lower priority).

To do this go to:
My Network Place - Properties - Advanced - Advanced Configuration - Network Card and Bindings (change the priority)
Reboot of the server is needed.
