SYMPTOM(s):
Microsoft ISA server ( firewall ) not allowing remote ODBC connections
Primary broker port defined for bidirectional communication
MicroSoft ISA Server has primary listener defined with secondary range
can telnet from an external location to the primary broker thru the firewall
can not telnet from an external location to any port within the minport maxport range
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
CAUSE:
Configuration of the MicroSoft ISA server was made as a primary port for the main database broker and a secondary port for the auto servers (which include the SQL92 Server processes).
FIX:
Make the following changes in MicroSoft ISA Server:
Configure all ports as primary ports
The ports include all listener ports (Primary or Secondary Brokers) and all auto server ports (for the SQL92 or 4GL) within their respective -minport -maxport ranges.
Make sure to configure the ports as bi-directional.
