GOAL:

What are recommended values for the cluster size and the number of clusters in a storage area in OpenEdge 10?

GOAL:

Is there a recommneded cluster size for a storage area?

GOAL:

Is there a rcecommended number of clusters in a storage area?

FACT(s) (Environment):

OpenEdge 10.x

FIX:

OpenEdge 10 uses the new ASAII architecture. Extents can be created with clusters, which consist of 1, 8, 64 or 512 blocks each. This is defined by the "blocks per cluster" value used when creating the database structure. Each block in the cluster is used to store the data from one database object (table, index, sequence) and no data from other objects will be stored in this block.

There are no recommendations on the cluster size or number of clusters in an extent. This depends on the design of each individual database and the number and size of the objects in this database.
