SYMPTOM(s):
Connecting to database with the DataDirect 4.0 SQL-89 driver gives error
[MERANT][ODBC PROGRESS driver][PROGESS] There is no server for database
<path to db> (1423)
ODBC driver settings are correct
Using Direct connection in driver database options tab
FACT(s) (Environment):
MERANT 4.0 32-BIT Progress SQL-89
Windows 2000
CAUSE:
The exact cause is unknown at the time of this writing
FIX:
Use the option "via server" in the database options tab for the ODBC driver. Specify the database service name and a host machine where the oidriver should spawn (this can even be the problem machine). This will allow the oidriver to spawn through a remote connection rather than directly through shared memory.
