XML is increasingly being used by Enterprises for many different purposes. You
need to understand the types of applications that use XML and you should understand what special considerations to take into account when designing XML-enabled applications.
XML-enabled applications:
Here is a description of the general categories of application types that use XML in today?s Enterprises:
Content management:
Content management applications display information that has been either pre-assembled or from data maintained in other applications. They can be used for collecting more information from end users. They can also have a knowledge management component.
Business transactions:
Business process management applications participate in the collection and storage of inbound business transactions. They validate and correct them, annotate them when necessary, and then forward them to other applications and/or partners.
Configuration management:
Configuration management applications enable software components to be installed, deployed and customized. They can also manage runtime information for installed components.
