GOAL:
Is it possible to reduce the size of a database extent ?
GOAL:
How to truncate fixed data extents?
FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.x
Progress 9.x
FIX:
Creating a database requires to use a .st file, where the size of the extents is defined for each area, this size is either fixed or variable for each extent. The size we define in this .st file will be allocated on the disk and there is not any option or tool to modify this size once the database has been created and populated with data, if resizing of any extents is needed, a full restructure of the database needs to be performed.
You can use prostrct remove to delete whole extents/areas, what might be done for a different purpose not for resizing.
