SYMPTOM(s):

Promon reports a buffer hit of zero percent ("0%")

CAUSE:

Promon reports a buffer hit of zero percent ("0%") when either the buffer hit is really bellow 1% or when there has been no activity at all since the last sample.

FIX:

None since this behavior is indeed an expected behavior. Now note the following points:
1) The first Buffer Hit reported by Promon is the Buffer Hit since the database has been started.
2) Talking about the Buffer Hit alone means nothing, and having a Buffer Hit close to 100% is not a goal in itself. One should always say Buffer Hit for a given period of activity (last hour, the all day, since startup...), and should also be aware of the jobs that are being performed. Indeed, if many large statistics are performed in a given period, then it is expected to see the Buffer Hit go down unless one can afford to handle the entire database in the Buffer Pool -B.
