GOAL:

Does Progress support spaces in the Extent Pathnames of the Database Structure Description files (ST)?

FIX:

Yes, Progress DOES support Extent Pathnames that contain spaces under all operating systems that allow this naming convention.

Extent Pathnames in Progress Database Structure Description Files (ST) are standard operating system files subject only to the restrictions imposed by the operating system.

To specify an Extent Pathname that contains spaces, precede the Pathname with an exclamation point (!) and wrap the whole Extent Pathname in quotation marks as per the following example:

...
d "Misc",32 !"/usr1/misc data" f 1024
...

For further details, see the "Extent Pathnames and Naming Conventions" topic of the "Creating a Structure Description File" section of the "Creating a Database With PROSTRCT CREATE" chapter in the "Progress Database Administration Guide and Reference"
