GOAL:

How to find out the memory needs for a 64 bit Progress version?

GOAL:

Is there a difference in the memory needs between 32 and 64 bit Progress?

FIX:

The Progress Installation and Configuration Guide for Unix is not explicitly making any difference regarding 32 or 64 bit Progress memory needs. Thus tests are needed since no general numbers exist. Recent tests on Solaris with the tools Gtop and top showed that there is a difference being worth to document. The results can be different on other platforms though. On Solaris, the 64 bit _mprosrv took appr. 10 % more memory than the one under the 32 bit product. The _progres processes of the 64 bit Progress consumed 25 to 30% more memory than the ones on the 32 Progress. This is just a limited test result and different parameter values etc. might give different results. However, this solution shall make you aware of the fact that the memory resources should be part of your plans when migrating to a 64 bit Progress product.
