Search functionality doesn't work in Win95 on-line 4gl HELP
Description of problem:
While running Win95 and Progress 8.1 or less, access any of the
Progress on-line HELP files. Try searching for various 4gl
statements. The search engine will not find the 4gl statements. This
is true even if searching from within the 4gl language reference help
file.
Explanation of problem:
Progress on-line help files created for version 8.1 and earlier are
16-bit help files. There are certain peculiar behaviors which occur
when viewing 16-bit help files in a 32-bit environment (such as
Win95). In particular, the SEARCH functionality does not always work
as expected. SEARCH works correctly when using version 8.2 32-bit
help files in Win95.
Work-arounds for Win95:
1. Access the Progress on-line language reference from within another
Progress on-line help file, such as from the Desktop or Procedure
Editor Help menu. Scroll down through all of the 4gl statements
listed in alphabetical order until you find the statements you are
interested in.
2. Alternatively, you can create a separate icon/shortcut on your
windows desktop. Have this point directly to
C:\DLC\Prohelp\Lgrfeng.hlp. When the language reference help files
are accessed directly in this way, the search functionality works
correctly.
