The purpose of this knowledgebase is to provide some general
information on issues and concerns in using Roundtable and
-----------
Visual Basic.
------------
RTB can handle non-Progess code as non-compileable PCODE objects.
Some of the features that RTB offers Progress developers will not be
possible with non-Progress code.
FEATURES LOST ARE:
- RTB will not be able to compile code or recompile other objects
that are affected by changes to the current non-Progress object.
- There will be no xrefs
- RTB will not be able to indicate where a non-PROGRESS object is used
- RTB will not be able to offer incremental compiles on deployments
Many of the features that RTB offers will continue to be possible with
non-Progress code.
FEATURES STILL AVAILABLE ARE:
- Visual Differences tool
- Module Load tool
- Group Checkout / Global Change Finder tool
- Multiple Workspaces
- Deployment Control
If your development environment is a mix of Progress and Visual Basic
then Roundtable will probably work very well.
If the environment is purely Visual Basic then Roundtable would work
but would not make much sense.
In this scenario, then it would be better to move to a product
specifically designed for that environment.
A product like "StarTeam" from Starbase see:http://www.starbase.com.
