GOAL:
How to access the International PROMSGS file for the Double-Byte Enabled (DBE) database product.
FIX:
Technical Support has received a number of calls from users who cannot locate their International PROMSGS file after installing Double-Byte Enabled Progress. Since this file is of significant size it does not come standard with the product; however, if you are dealing with a language which requires this file, you can order it free of charge from our Sales Administration department.
Since all Progress products are contained on our installation media, all that is required is that you speak with someone in Sales Administration and request the license number and control codes to copy the file to your system.
When you install Double-Byte Enabled Progress, the International PROMSGS file will be located in its own subdirectory under dlc/lang (example: dlc/lang/jpn for Japanese). With many languages (that is, non ISO8859-1 code page languages), the PROMSGS file by itself will not be enough to properly enable that language. The developer will also want to use the other files supplied with it, such as the "empty.db" (with the appropriate codepage), the startup parameter file, and sometimes a special PROGRESS.INI file.
For Double-Byte languages on UNIX platforms, International PROMSGS should be installed.
For Double-Byte languages on MS-Windows (3.1, 95, NT - including NT Server), the "DBE Supplement" should be installed. The DBE Supplement provides the PROMSGS files for the Double-Byte languages. It also installs the Double-Byte Progress executables (standard on v8.2 and higher). ** This is very important - without the executables, the PROMSGS files will not function properly.
NOTE: this also applies to non-DBE languages such as Russian.
Please contact Progress Sales Administration for either the International PROMSGS or DBE Supplemental file, again, free of charge.
