CAUSE:
The exact cause is unknown at the time of this writing.
FIX:
The file i18n under /etc/sysconfig/ has the wrong language settings as, e.g.:
LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"
Needs to be changed to:
LANG="en_US.iso885915"
SUPPORTED="en_US.iso885915:en_US:en"
