German umlauts not displaying properly
Umlaut displays as V
CHANGE:
Data using umlauts needs to be entered into database
CAUSE:
Character client not starting with appropriate code page.
FIX:
Microsoft Windows codepage for GUI (English or West European) is 1252. The codepage for MS-DOS console is IBM437. These are different but compatible and convertible codepages.
Start client session with DOS console's codepage which is determined by typing mode at a MS-DOS prompt.
Microsoft Windows MS-DOS mode shows code page: IBM437. Start the client session with -cpstream IBM437.
