FACT(s) (Environment):
Dynamics 2.1A
SYMPTOM(s):
Enhancement request:Testing on WAN environment
One of the prerequisites we set was that Dynamics be tested on a WAN environment as part of the QA process.
If Dynamics is not tested in the same environment where is is going to be deployed, these performance problems will remain and the product will never be usable as part of an enterprise WAN environment.
CAUSE:
Eenhancement request# 20040422-010
FIX:
We did perform WAN testing for 2.1A and published the results in the 2.1A Performance Whitepaper. WAN testing was performed using our WAN between our Bedford office and our Nashua office. Additionally we tested using 56k dialup (connected at 33k). The results of this testing have been published and we believe that a 56K dial-up is the minimum we can test and the slowest connection that anyone should be expected to support.
We agree that performance improvement is an incremental, continuous process. Although we achieved substantial improvements in the 2.1A Dynamics release, there are certainly more improvements to be made and we remain committed to that effort. As part of 2.1A development, the Dynamics team defined benchmarks, implemented an automated benchmarking capability and performance lab, and daily monitored and analyzed benchmark performance throughout the development cycle. Continuous performance measurement is now part of our ongoing development methodology. Further we intend to continue expanding the benchmark suite to cover additional common application scenarios and expand the measured network configurations to better understand performance on slow networks.
