SYMPTOM(s):
Importing a file with the Import Data option in Data Administration gives an error
Adding DLC\bin to the PATH does not help
Path to the import file has a long filename
xxxxxx.adm was not found (293)
CAUSE:
To import data, Progress uses an MS-DOS program called QUOTER.EXE. Since MS-DOS only recognizes names in the 8.3 file format, it cannot find a long filename.
FIX:
There are two ways to address the problem.
1.Move the file to a directory with no long filenames, such as C:\WRK91D, and import from there.
2.Edit the path, using the 8.3 MS-DOS naming convention.
For example, when the Import dBase File Contents dialogue comes up, you browse to your desktop to find a .DBF file to import. The path might show:
C:\Documents and Settings\bshane\Desktop\TOTALS.DBF
The error 293 still occurs.In the example above, the path would need to be edited to:
C:\Docume~1\bshane\Desktop\TOTALS.DBF
